   RE-OPENING SPORTS FACILITIES    14 May, 2020

PUBLIC ACCESS AND USE OF RECREATION FACILITIES

There have been recent changes in Government Guidance, set out in ‘Closing certain businesses and venues in England’ in relation to sports facilities.

Tennis and outdoor courts have been removed from the mandatory closed list, however, the government have also produced guidance on how such spaces can be operated safely going forwards, in particular:

‘Coronavirus – guidance on accessing green spaces safely’

and

‘Coronavirus (COVID-19): safer public places - urban centres and green spaces’

and

'Coronavirus (COVID-19): guidance on the phased return of sport and recreation'

The Council has considered the additional issued guidance on how to facilitate safe operation of facilities and has decided to reopen the tennis courts with the following arrangments:

- the gate will be locked open to avoid this being handled by multiple persons

- the nets should be left up to avoid handling by multiple persons

- guidance from the LTA on safe practice should be displayed

- signs emphasising social distance requirements should be displayed

All users are reminded that exercise can only be taken in household groups or with 1 non-household person (provided 2m distance is maintained).

If the use of courts is not in accordance with the above their availability will be reviewed.

In order that the nets remain up, netball and basketball facilities have not been made available at this time.
