When BT proposed to remove the Woodside Road phone box due to lack of use the Parish Council were offered the opportunity to ‘adopt it’ on behalf of the community. The Parish Council received positive feedback from members of the community who wanted to keep the box as a part of the local landscape, but who also saw potential to give the box a new purpose going forwards.
The Parish Council has completed necessary upgrading of the electrical system and the box is now ready to begin its next life as part of the village and the Parish Council is looking for ideas and volunteers to make this happen.
It could be that the box becomes a library or local charity fundraising ‘shop’ or even a plant and veg swap – but whatever the idea, for it to work, there need to be willing hands and eyes to help take care of the box.
