Use of Dirt and Scrambler Bikes

Concerns about use of scrambler and other motorbikes on public land, including the recreation grounds / pitches have been raised with the Council.  Bikes can cause damage to ground surfaces, noise inconvenience to residents and upset to animals.  There is also the risk of serious injury when they are not used properly.

Off road bikes and quads mustn’t be driven on a public road or trail unless the driver is at least 17 year old (16 where the vehicle is classed as a moped) and has a driving licence, insurance, tax, MOT, licence plates, reflectors and a helmet. They cannot be used on public roads or rights of way (save bye-ways open to all traffic and unsurfaced unclassified ‘green lanes’).  Otherwise, they can only be driven on private land if the landowner gives permission. The Council does not permit their use on any recreation space it is responsible for.

If you see bikes where they shouldn’t be, or riders behaving in a concerning way, please report to local police with time and location. This enables a picture of the problem to be built-up. You can call 101 (non-emergencies number) and can also report via www.surrey.police.uk or use the live chat facility on the website, you can report via social media – search for Waverley Beat on Facebook or @WaverleyBeat on Twitter . All these reporting facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
